Schoology Requirements
These are UPrep's minimum expectations for using Schoology — the baseline every course should meet, regardless of subject or division. This information is owned by ILT. For tips on implementation, see Best Practices.
Both Divisions
- Due dates for all summative assessments must be calendared on the course Schoology page.
- Any materials students need to complete work outside of class (readings, worksheets, rubrics, etc.) should be available to students electronically via Schoology whenever possible.
- Respond to student messages sent through Schoology within one working day.
- If your class has linked or cross-listed sections on a rotating schedule, make sure due dates are calendared accurately for each section — use Grading Groups as necessary in combined classes. See Add a Section and Schoology's Grading Groups documentation for more.
- Schoology gradebook:
- Make sure any information you share with students via the Schoology gradebook is accurate — review how your Grade Setup is configured to confirm it's doing what you expect. Your Department Chair or June can help you check your setup.
- Back up your data by exporting your gradebook after entering assessment grades. Schoology's system-wide backup for gradebook data is not reliable.
- Turn Submissions ON when you want students to be able to submit work through Schoology, and OFF for everything else — leaving it on unintentionally triggers unnecessary missing-work alerts for students (see Submission Method).
Upper School
- Due dates for all assignments students are expected to complete at home should be calendared on the course Schoology page. A multi-day assignment sheet or project calendar can be a useful supplement, but any work due before a specific class session should also be calendared individually.
- Every assignment and assessment calendared in Schoology should be rated using
the
Paw Ratings
guidelines, and named according to the
Upper School Workload Calendaring Expectations
— for example:
*** IC: Foundations of Literature - Socratic Seminar on Brave New World. - As appropriate, cross-post assignments and assessments to the relevant grade-level Workload Calendar (see Workload Calendar).
Middle School
- All graded assignments, projects, and assessments must appear in Schoology. Students, advisors, and parents should be able to view grades for all assessed work. Teachers can maintain separate grade books; however, Schoology must still be used to record grades.
- Due dates for all assignments students are expected to complete at home should be calendared on the course Schoology page.
- Materials students need to complete work outside of class should be placed at the top of the course Schoology page whenever possible, so they're easy to find.
