What do I do if a student is added or dropped from my class?

Question

A student's schedule changed after the start of the year — do I need to do anything in Schoology?

Answer

Yes. Veracross is always the official roster; Schoology does not automatically sync mid-year schedule changes. If a student adds or drops your course, go to the Members tab of your Schoology course and add or remove them yourself so your Schoology roster matches Veracross.

Two things to know: students can't remove themselves from a course, and a student can't be added to a new section of a class while still enrolled in an old section of the same class — if you can't find a student in the add box, check whether they're still enrolled in another section first.

Note: as of a June 2026 Schoology change, a student dropped via the SIS feed goes Inactive rather than being removed outright, which preserves their grades and past submissions. This is a platform-side change to how SIS drops behave generally — it doesn't change what you need to do above for a manual add/drop in your own course.
