Glossary
Terms used elsewhere on this site that aren't spelled out where they appear.
AUE (Auto Update Expiration)
The date Google stops shipping ChromeOS software updates for a specific Chromebook model. Worth checking against your student's remaining years at UPrep before buying a Chromebook — see Middle School Chromebooks.
Clearance
The gap you deliberately design between two parts so they actually fit together — two parts modeled at identical sizes won't. See Tolerance and Fit.
Course Admin
A Schoology role with administrative permissions over a specific course — editing content, managing settings, and adding other admins. You need to be a Course Admin on a course to copy resources into it. See How do I become a course admin?.
CT (Community Time)
UPrep's block of time for clubs, study hall, and student activities, including Makerspace access. See Programs, Teams, and Clubs.
DXF
A 2D vector file format — flat outlines only. It's what the CNC router and the vinyl cutters need, as opposed to the 3MF or STL a 3D printer needs. See Exporting Your Design.
Grading Groups
A Schoology feature that lets a single course have different due dates or grading periods per class period or section, so a rotating or block schedule still calendars correctly. See Schoology Requirements.
HTV (Heat-Transfer Vinyl)
Vinyl cut on the Silhouette and applied to fabric with a heat press. Cut mirrored, because it's applied face-down. See Vinyl and Cardstock Cutting.
ILP (Individual Learning Plan)
A plan that lists the accommodations a student is entitled to receive and the instructional strategies that best support them in the classroom. ILPs identify learning strengths and challenges, specify accommodations, and outline supportive instructional strategies. See UPrep's Integrated Learning page for more.
ILT (Instructional Leadership Team)
UPrep's leadership body for academic policy. ILT owns the Schoology Requirements and reviews annual software purchase decisions — see Who Owns What.
ITIP (Individualized Teaching Improvement Program)
UPrep's structure for faculty to engage in self-selected professional development.
MS / US
Middle School / Upper School — used throughout this site to mark guidance that differs by division.
Slicing
Converting a 3D model into the layer-by-layer instructions a 3D printer follows. Bambu Studio is the slicer we use. See 3D Printing Workflow.
Toolpath
The route a CNC bit takes through material, generated from your 2D outlines in Carbide Create. See Running the CNC.
ULab
UPrep's Makerspace (L220), home to 3D printing, laser cutting, and other Makers tools. See Makers.
Workload Calendar
A separate Schoology class for each grade level (9–12) that aggregates assignments and assessments across all of that grade's classes, so faculty can see the overall picture of what students are balancing at any given time. See Workload Calendar.
